The inspiration for this piece came at the end of the winter as I noticed all the cold blues and greys pervading my work and my life. I felt I needed to see, not just greens and bright yellows, but also to feel the sensation of dappled light in the trees and the swirling effect of wind again. I thought about the partial information memory provides us, hence the negative spaces or voids in the piece. This lead to the very matter-of-fact title "There are holes in my perception of the rainforest".
The work will be exhibited at the intersection of Springfield and Woodland Avenues in Summit, New Jersey until fall of 2018. I hope you get a chance to go and see it, especially over the winter when a dose of green is needed outdoors.

RE:Growth Riverside
A CELEBRATION OF ART, RIVERSIDE PARK AND THE NEW YORK SPIRIT
A Public Art Exhibition
Produced by the Riverside Park Conservancy in NYC
Curated by Karin Bravin
June 6-September 13, 2021
ABOUT THE WORK
For the exhibit RE:Growth, my partner, Gary Fredriksen, and I, invite the viewer to approach the work from many vantage points, interacting with each as a sort of screen, filling one’s frame of vision with color, while also being able to observe the changing natural setting of Riverside Park, including the movement and activities of it’s inhabitants.
There Are Holes In My Perception of The Forest is meant to evoke the sensation of dappled light and the swirling effect of wind on trees. I have used the negative spaces, or voids, in the piece to represent both gaps in my own perception and memory and a reminder of the unseen forces of nature at work. This piece should be considered a sort of botanic intervention, as it blends into, mirrors or perhaps camouflages itself in it’s setting. As the season’s change it leads to an entirely different sensation as it’s verdant color will contrast more with the site.
[There are Holes in My Perception of the Forest is located at Riverside Drive and Tiemann Place, NYC]
Four Currents was conceived as a convergence of the energies of its location in Riverside Park: the powerful flow of the river, the urban surroundings, the radiant energy of the sun, and the wind that bends the trees. Currents may be tidal, electrical or even social…
“In special and general relativity, the four-current is the four-dimensional analogue of the electric current density. Also known as vector current, it is used in the geometric context of four-dimensional spacetime, rather than three-dimensional space and time separately.”
[Four Currents is located at 83rd Street on the Hudson river inside Riverside Park, NYC]
