A series of large scale immersive paintings on paper. Each painting begins by chance with a mark, a brush stroke or a dispersion of ink. As the negative spaces are given shape the push and pull between positive and negative begins… a metaphor for the way the greatest forces of nature do the same. Land is formed, water washes it away and it is formed anew. The paintings offer many small landscapes giving way to a vast one that is the entirety of the piece.There is pattern, there is expression in the calligraphic brush strokes and cross contours that define form and there is an element of color immersion the scale brings.

An ongoing series of organic abstractions in highly saturated colors dominated by a vivid yellow. There is the push and pull of negative space and the contrast of soft fields versus hard edges that define amorphous forms. A sense of change, movement and rhythm comes from the intuitive way the forms, color choices and composition emerge in process-driven work.

The Remote Places series began during the pandemic in earnest. Similarly to my Terra Firma series it contains elements of landscape dissolving into others. It imagines an unstable sense of time and space that echoes the Zeitgeist of life in the Anthroposcene and beyond.
