in summer 2020, I participated in an International Exhibit called Art Off Screen, curated by Eileen Jeng Lynch for neumeraki.com. Artists were asked to create public facing works, making art more accessible out of doors during the pandemic.

For Art Off Screen I created “Forest Found”, a socially engaged project that provides a way of giving back to the trees, woodlands and parks that sustained us during the pandemic.

On August 15, 2020 I installed the first iteration of the project, by leaving various suspended anthropomorphic paper cut works in the woods at Mills Reservation in New Jersey. Works were installed in groupings along the trail with a tag explaining that the work could be taken home by whomever finds it and a request for contributions to www.weforest.org, an organization that works with communities, local organizations and NGOs to develop scalable reforestation projects.

The second iteration was carried out on October 9-10 at Mills, shortly after the vice presidential debate in which a fly landed on the head of, then vice president, Mike Pence,. I created a swarm of paper cut flies in the woods in honor of that fly, whom, I felt, added a bit of levity to the very contentious debate… said fly reminding us of our responsibilities to all creatures of this world to be stewards of our natural environment on their behalf.
